Wudang Honey Orange

Wudang honey orange is a fine citrus grown in the Danjiangkou reservoir area of Hubei where Mount Wudang stands; favoured by the reservoir's mild micro-climate and abundant sun, the fruit is thin-skinned and bright, juicy and tender, with a balanced sweet-acid taste, a celebrated local product of the Wudang region.

The Danjiangkou reservoir sits in the upper Han river among the Qinling-Daba mountains, and its distinctive soil and climate have bred a fine citrus belt; Wudang honey oranges and citrus are long renowned, a speciality card of the area's farm-and-tourism blend and a fruit souvenir visitors often carry home from Wudangshan.

Best peeled fresh in the autumn-winter season, it is also pressed for juice, canned, candied or cooked; around Mount Wudang, roadside markets and orchards sell it ready to taste, a naturally sweet refreshment on the mountain trails.

The thin skin, juiciness and sweet-acid balance lent by the reservoir micro-climate, and the Danjiangkou origin mark, set Wudang honey oranges apart from other citrus.
