Lv Da Gun (Donkey Rolls)

名物グルメ
概要

Lv Da Gun is made by steaming glutinous millet dough, wrapping it around red bean paste or sesame filling, and rolling it in toasted soybean flour; the name means 'donkey rolls in yellow earth', describing its appearance.

由来

Lv Da Gun originates from traditional Manchu confectionery and became widely popular across northern China after the Qing court entered the pass; Chengde, as an important Manchu settlement during the Qing dynasty, still counts it among its local specialty foods today.

食べ方

Eaten directly; soft, glutinous and pleasantly sweet with rich soybean fragrance — a classic sweet snack when visiting the Mountain Resort area.

特徴

The outer soybean flour coating is fine and soft, the bean paste filling sweet but not cloying, and the overall texture richly layered — the most distinctive traditional sweet on Chengde's streets.
