Lao Meihua

The Lao Meihua shoe house opened in 1911, a homegrown Tianjin brand that began by making bound-foot and women's shoes and grew into a standard-bearer of the city's traditional hand-made cloth footwear.

Lao Meihua is remembered for its embroidered "three-inch golden lotus" slippers and traditional cloth shoes, carrying the everyday wardrobe memory of Tianjin in the late-Qing and early-Republican years.

Its shoemaking relies on hand stitching the soles, joining uppers and embroidery, with fine, dense seams and carefully chosen materials that embody Tianjin's traditional cobbling skills.
