Zheng Lao Brand Papaya Milk

Zheng Lao Brand papaya milk was founded in 1965 by Mr. Zheng Bo-ci, who came from Fujian. He first sold papaya milk in the Kaohsiung Xinxing Market before settling at the entrance of Liuhe Night Market on Liuhe 2nd Road, becoming the most eye-catching old stall beside Exit 11 of MRT Formosa Boulevard Station. Though papaya milk has several origin stories across Taiwan, Zheng Lao Brand is one of the names that rooted it in Kaohsiung.

For decades Zheng Lao Brand has chosen fresh papaya and quality milk, paired with its own slow-simmered sugar syrup, blending each cup to order for a rich, fragrant taste. As the first stall at the Liuhe Night Market entrance it is called the "first step" into the market, and it once topped Kaohsiung's ten-best-food vote and the online poll; photos of many celebrities line the stall.

Its papaya milk is blended to order from ripe hand-cut papaya, chilled milk and sugar syrup in a high-speed blender, balancing the ratio of fruit to milk and the sweetness of the syrup; the result is a creamy, finely textured drink in which the fragrance of papaya leads, a classic of Kaohsiung's street drinks.
