The Yipaerhan Lavender Sightseeing Park sits in the Yili River Valley near Yining, where cool nights, ample sunshine, and snowmelt irrigation create conditions remarkably similar to those of southern France. The park is one of several lavender sites around Yining operated under the Yipaerhan brand, which has processed the valley's aromatic crops since the mid-twentieth century and remains one of the best-known names in China's lavender industry.

The core of the visit is a series of planted terraces where rows of lavender bloom from mid-June into July, framed by poplar windbreaks and distant views of the Tianshan range. Raised walkways and photo platforms let visitors move through the fields without damaging the crop, and small demonstration areas show how the flowers are steam-distilled into essential oil, dried into sachets, and formulated into cosmetic products. Gift-shop purchases can often be shipped internationally, which is useful for travelers on longer routes through northwest China.

Beyond the bloom itself, the park highlights why Yining and the wider Ili basin became a lavender heartland. In the 1960s, state farms experimented with importing French lavender cultivars; the river valley's microclimate proved so suitable that within a generation Yili was producing a large share of China's domestic harvest. Interpretive panels trace this agricultural story and place it alongside the broader Russian and Central Asian influences that shaped local diet, music, and architecture.

Because the park is more compact than some of Yining's other flower-field complexes, it suits a half-day stop rather than a full-day outing. Travelers often pair it with a loop through nearby Kazanqi Folk Tourism Area or a sunset walk along the Ili River, treating the lavender fields as one thread in the wider cultural and agricultural landscape of the Ili basin.
