大慈恩寺

Da Ci'en Temple is a historic Buddhist temple in southern Xi'an best known as the home of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the most iconic structures to survive from the Tang dynasty. The temple was originally established in the mid-seventh century, commissioned by a Tang crown prince in memory of his mother, and became closely associated with the celebrated monk and translator Xuanzang, whose seventeen-year overland pilgrimage to India in search of Buddhist scriptures inspired the classic novel "Journey to the West."
