The Xiamen Twin Towers are the most prominent feature of the city's modern skyline, two slender, sail-shaped skyscrapers that rise above the downtown waterfront facing Gulangyu Island. As a landmark of twenty-first-century Xiamen, they symbolize the city's emergence as a modern coastal metropolis, and they are visible from many points along the harbor and the Lujiang waterfront. For travelers, they serve as both a navigation aid and one of the most photographed elements of the city's skyline, especially at night.

Designed by a prominent international architecture firm, the towers are distinguished by their graceful curved forms, which are often compared to twin sails rising above the sea. The surrounding area offers shopping, dining, and an easy, modern contrast to the historic lanes of the island, and the upper levels of the complex sometimes house observation or dining experiences with sweeping views over Xiamen, the harbor, and the heritage island offshore.

The Twin Towers sit in the heart of the central waterfront district, making them a natural reference point for a day exploring downtown Xiamen, the Zhongshan Road area, and the harbor from which ferries depart for Gulangyu. As a piece of contemporary urban architecture and a symbol of modern Xiamen, they offer an interesting counterpoint to the city's older heritage, and even a short walk around their base gives visitors a sense of how completely Xiamen has been reshaped in the twenty-first century.
