太子坡景区について
Taizipo is one of the historic temple areas within the Wudang Mountain scenic region of Hubei province, set on the lower slopes of Wudangshan along the main route that pilgrims and visitors traditionally follow up the mountain. As part of the wider Wudang Ancient Building Complex, the UNESCO World Heritage Site that climbs the range, it offers a quieter, more contemplative stop compared to the busier summit and the great cliff temples of Nanyan, and it is closely tied to the legends of Zhenwu, the Taoist deity who is the patron of Wudang Mountain.
The name Taizipo, meaning Crown Prince's Slope, refers to the tradition that Zhenwu, originally a prince, retreated to Wudang Mountain to cultivate the Way in this area before attaining enlightenment. The complex is built around that devotional story, and the buildings are arranged to reflect the journey of the prince toward spiritual realization. Among the architectural highlights is the famous beam structure known in Chinese as One Pillar Supporting Twelve Beams, an ingenious piece of traditional timber framing in which a single upright carries a dozen crossbeams, an engineering feat that has long been celebrated as one of the marvels of Wudangshan.
Other features include the long undulating corridor that follows the slope, offering framed views of the surrounding peaks, and halls dedicated to scenes from the life of Zhenwu. The temple's red walls, dark tiles, and terraced courtyards have a calmer, more residential feel than the great summit palaces, and the area is shaded by old trees that make it especially pleasant on a hot day. Photography along the slope, with the layered ridgelines of the Wudang range unfolding behind the roofs, is one of the simple pleasures of a visit here.
Because Taizipo sits on the lower section of the mountain, it is often one of the first stops on the classic Wudang route, pairing naturally with the Purple Cloud Palace and Nanyan Palace further up. Allow an unhurried hour to wander the courtyards and take in the views. For travelers who want to understand the Taoist legends and architectural ingenuity behind Wudangshan, Taizipo is a rewarding and atmospheric part of any visit to the mountain.
