Dalongqiu, the Great Dragon Waterfall, is the most famous single sight in the Yandang Mountain range near Wenzhou and the third of its three signature zones. Set in a deep, steep-walled valley, it brings together one of China's most celebrated waterfalls with the strange, ever-changing rock formations that define this 5A volcanic landscape. For travelers building a day around Yandang, it is the most iconic stop and the one most strongly associated with the mountain in Chinese poetry and painting.

The path into the valley leads first to Scissor Peak, a slender blade of stone that is famous for appearing to change shape as you move along the trail. With each step, the same rock morphs into a crocodile, a pair of scissors, a maiden, a woodpecker, a bear, and a ship's mast, with small signs along the route pointing out each new guise. It is one of the most playful and rewarding examples of the shape-shifting geology that makes Yandang so distinctive, and many visitors linger here longer than expected simply to test their own eyes against the rock.

Beyond Scissor Peak lies the waterfall itself, a single narrow ribbon dropping nearly two hundred meters from the cliff above into a clear pool. Rather than spreading wide, it falls in a thin, vertical line that catches the wind and drifts into mist as it descends, giving the cascade a delicate, almost brush-stroked quality rather than a thunderous one. The waterfall is most powerful after heavy rain, when the water truly pours; in dry seasons it can shrink to a slender thread, but the mist and the cool air around the pool still make for an atmospheric stop.

The zone also stages short high-wire performances at intervals through the day, with acrobats crossing on steel cables strung between the peaks, a folk tradition rooted in the local history of herb gathering on these cliffs. Dalongqiu combines naturally with Lingfeng and Lingyan into a full day of mountain sightseeing, and sturdy shoes are essential given the long stone paths. As the most photographed and written-about corner of Yandang, it is the essential stop for anyone wanting to understand why this Wenzhou mountain has captivated travelers for centuries.
