Xinjiang Folk Street (Xinjiang Min Jie) is a themed commercial street in Urumqi, Xinjiang, organized around the regional folk cultures and craft traditions of the wider region. It is one of several recent developments in the city that have used the cultural and ethnographic material of Xinjiang as the basis for a themed retail and food environment, and it complements the larger International Grand Bazaar with a less tourited, more curated version of the same general idea.

The street is organized into a sequence of zones, each focused on a different aspect of regional material culture. Stalls and small shops sell embroidery, felt, woven carpets, musical instruments, jewelry of silver and semi-precious stone, leatherwork, and ceramics, with the selection emphasizing handwork and regional craft traditions over mass-produced goods. Some of the workshops are visible from the street, allowing visitors to see the production process for embroidery, woodcarving, or instrument-making, and this craft-on-display element is one of the distinctive features of the street.

A second zone is devoted to regional food. Stalls and small restaurants serve the standard repertoire of the regional cuisine, with an emphasis on dishes and snacks from outside Urumqi itself: hand-pulled noodles from the oases of the south, polo pilaf from the Kashgar region, dairy products from the pastoral regions of the north, and a rotating selection of seasonal fruit. The food zone is most active in the late afternoon and evening, and a meal here is a useful counterpoint to the more concentrated food hall inside the bazaar.

The architecture and signage of the street draw on the same general Silk Road vocabulary as the bazaar, but the result is quieter and less monumental, with lower building heights and a more domestic scale. The street is less busy than the bazaar and is more commonly used by local residents than by organized tour groups, which gives it a different rhythm and character even when the underlying content overlaps.

For international travelers, Folk Street is best understood as a complementary stop to the bazaar rather than a replacement for it. A visit typically takes about ninety minutes and pairs naturally with one of the nearby museums on a one-day Urumqi itinerary. It is also a useful stop for visitors looking for craft purchases, since the emphasis on handwork and the relative absence of tour-group pressure make it easier to compare quality and bargain for individual pieces.
