大バザール歩行街

The Grand Bazaar Pedestrian Street (Dabaza Buxingjie) is a T-shaped pedestrian area in the older district of Urumqi, Xinjiang, organized around the larger Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar complex. The street runs from the outer ring road eastward to connect with the older pedestrian stretch along Tianchi Road, and together with the bazaar itself it forms one of the principal public realms of the older city center.

The street is divided into zones defined by their primary retail and food mix. One section is given over to cultural and creative products and to items branded around regional intangible cultural heritage, including felt, embroidery, musical instruments, and printed material. A second section presents what is marketed as an "international fashion" range of mid-tier retail and lifestyle stores. A third section functions as a food street, with stalls and small restaurants serving the standard repertoire of the regional cuisine: naan fresh from tandoor ovens, lamb skewers grilled over charcoal, laghman noodles, polo pilaf, samsa pastries, and yogurt and fruit drinks.

The architecture of the street continues the visual idiom of the larger bazaar, with arcades, decorated columns, and signage that reference the Silk Road caravan tradition. At night, when the lights come up along the full length of the street and the food stalls are at their busiest, the effect is one of the more distinctive urban scenes in northwest China, and the area draws heavy foot traffic from local residents as well as visitors through the warmer months of the year.

For international travelers, the pedestrian street functions as the connective tissue between the bazaar and the older commercial districts around Tianchi Road, and the most natural way to use it is as a walking route into and out of the bazaar visit rather than as a destination in its own right. A slow traverse of the full length with stops for food and shopping takes roughly two hours, and the area is most active in the late afternoon and evening.

The street is fully open and unticketed. Credit cards are accepted in some of the larger stores but cash and mobile payment dominate at the food and craft stalls, so visitors should carry both options. Visitors with limited time in Urumqi should prioritize the bazaar itself and use the pedestrian street selectively, since the strongest single concentration of interest remains inside the bazaar complex.
