Locomotive Square is a small open plaza in central Manzhouli dedicated to the railway heritage of the city and to the role that rail transport has played in shaping the frontier town. The square was laid out in the early 2000s around a vintage steam locomotive and a section of original track, both of which are preserved as open-air monuments to the early decades of rail transport in the region.

The locomotive on display is a steam engine dating from the mid-twentieth century, and it carries the road number 1861. The section of track beneath it is even older, manufactured in the Soviet Union in the mid-1920s, and the rail type is identified by its weight per meter rather than by a brand name. The combination of a Japanese-built locomotive and Soviet-built rail captures, in two artifacts, the layered international history of the railways of Manzhouli, a city that grew up at the point where the Chinese standard-gauge system met the Russian broad-gauge system and where the rolling stock of several nations came together.

The square itself is a small public space that functions as both a monument and a meeting place. The interpretive plaques around the engine explain the significance of the artifacts to visitors who may not be familiar with the railway history of the region.
