愛河について
Love River (Ai He) is the gentle waterway that runs through the heart of Kaohsiung and serves as the city's most important natural landmark. Once a working river bordered by industry, it has been transformed over recent decades into a linear park and civic space that anchors much of central Kaohsiung's public life. For visitors, the river is less a single attraction than a continuous thread that ties together parks, museums, cafes, and nightlife across several kilometres of the city centre.
The river is crossed by a series of bridges, each connecting different districts and attractions along its banks. Walking the riverside promenade from one bridge to the next is the most popular way to experience the area, and the path links together several well-known landmarks: the Love River Waterside Park, the 228 Peace Memorial Park, the Holy Rosary Cathedral, and True Love Wharf at the river's lower reach. The bridges themselves are attractions in the evening, when architectural lighting turns the river into a continuous sequence of reflected arches.
The riverbanks also host much of Kaohsiung's café and small-bar culture. On both sides, particularly in the middle reaches, coffee shops and small restaurants open onto the water, and the riverside paths are filled in the evening with locals walking, cycling, or simply sitting by the water. A dedicated bicycle lane runs along the western bank, making the river one of the most pleasant places in the city for a relaxed ride. The atmosphere, particularly at night, is one of the most distinctive things about modern Kaohsiung.
For international visitors, the river works as both a destination and an orientation device. A walk along the promenade at sunset is one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to spend an evening in central Kaohsiung, and the path connects so many other attractions that it tends to structure any walking itinerary through the city centre. Allow at least an hour for a relaxed stroll, longer if you plan to stop for coffee or to take a river cruise, which depart regularly from the lower-reach piers.
