Qianshan Phoenix-Chicken Dance

The Qianshan phoenix-chicken dance is a folk dance from the Qianshan area, named for imitating the movements of a phoenix (a stylized rooster). It is performed at festivals to convey auspiciousness and joy.

Performers carry or are costumed as the phoenix-chicken figure, mimicking its wing-spreading, dancing, and playful poses to gong-and-drum accompaniment. The lively movements carry a strong festive folk flavor.

As a provincial-level item of intangible cultural heritage, the dance reflects local people's wish to invite blessings through dance, and represents the traditional festival culture of Zhuhai's Qianshan area.
