Green Tea Making (Yuhua Tea Technique)
National ICH · Batch 5Origin
Yuhua tea is a green tea native to Nanjing, named in memory of Yuhuatai; its making was successively listed as municipal and provincial heritage before entering the national list in 2021 as an extension of green-tea craft.
The art form
Through fixing, rolling and shaping-drying, the leaves are hand-rolled and pinched into the tight, straight, pine-needle form and emerald colour that distinguish the tea.
Cultural significance
Listed in the fifth national batch in 2021, it represents Nanjing's tea culture and the refined craftsmanship of Jiangnan green tea.
