The Boluo Dan is a traditional temple fair at the Nanhai (South Sea) God Temple in Guangzhou's Huangpu, held in honor of the South Sea deity — one of Lingnan's oldest folk-belief gatherings.

The art form

During the fair, sea-worship rites, processions and folk performances take place, with handmade 'Boluo roosters' and other crafts sold amid bustling crowds.

Cultural significance

The Boluo Dan is national-level intangible cultural heritage, reflecting the sea-god worship of Guangzhou as a starting point of the Maritime Silk Road.
