À propos de Palais de la céramique du village de Xinping, district de Fuliang
The Xinping Village Porcelain Palace, located in Fuliang County near Jingdezhen, is a remarkable folk-art environment built entirely from porcelain, and one of the most extraordinary and eccentric sights in the "Porcelain Capital." The creation of a single dedicated collector, it is a palace in the sense of a dream made solid, assembled over years from tens of thousands of ceramic objects, and it stands as a passionate, personal monument to the porcelain tradition of Jingdezhen.
The structure is made of more than sixty thousand pieces of porcelain, with its walls and surfaces inlaid with tens of thousands of porcelain shards, vases, plates, and tiles in dazzling, dense patterns. The decoration draws on the four classic porcelain types of Jingdezhen, blue-and-white, openwork "linglong," Famille Rose, and monochrome glazes, with the porcelain pieces half-embedded in the walls and arranged into all manner of shapes and patterns, alongside large-format porcelain panel paintings. The overall effect is of a folk-art cathedral, at once bold, strange, and deeply devoted to the craft it celebrates.
The objects embedded in the palace were gathered over decades by its creator, and many of them date back to the late twentieth century, when traditional wood-fired kilns still produced the wares, so the palace also serves as an informal preservation of an older Jingdezhen that is steadily disappearing. The combination of the visionary design, the sheer quantity of porcelain, and the personal dedication behind the project makes the site very different from the city's official museums and kilns, and many visitors find it one of the most moving and memorable stops in the region.
The Porcelain Palace is best visited as a half-day side trip from Jingdezhen, often combined with the Fuliang Old County Yamen or other sights in the Fuliang area. Allow an hour or so to take in the dense, detailed surfaces and to appreciate the story behind the project. For travelers interested in folk art, outsider architecture, or the living porcelain culture of Jingdezhen beyond its great institutions, this extraordinary personal creation is one of the most distinctive and photogenic destinations in the Porcelain Capital.
