Early mornings are quiet and photogenic, while evenings bring out locals strolling and dining, which gives the streets a festive feel. The shade of the arcades makes the area comfortable even in the heat of the day, and a slow ramble is the right pace.

Qilou Old Street sits in the heart of Haikou and pairs naturally with the nearby Haikou Clock Tower and the waterfront, forming a rewarding walking loop through the historic core.
