Chengkan is an ancient Huizhou village near Mount Huangshan with a long pedigree and a strong reputation among students of traditional Chinese village planning, distinguished by the careful application of feng shui principles to its overall layout and its dense collection of surviving Ming and Qing dynasty buildings. For a Huangshan itinerary, Chengkan offers a quieter, more architecturally focused alternative to the more famous Huizhou villages, particularly rewarding for visitors with a serious interest in traditional Chinese architecture, feng shui, or the broader spectrum of regional village types. It pairs well with Hongcun, Xidi, or the broader Ancient Huizhou Cultural Tourism Zone, and it tends to draw fewer crowds, making it a good option for visitors looking to escape the busiest stretches of the standard village circuit.
