Cultural heritage

The Zhengzhou Shang Dynasty Site Museum is built around the remains of a Shang-era capital beneath the city. Preserved underground are the traces of a city wall some 3,600 years old, whose massive rammed-earth ramparts confirm that this was an important early capital of the Shang dynasty. Centered on these ancient remains, the museum systematically presents the city's layout, bronze civilization and social life in Shang-period Zhengzhou, offering a window onto China's early states and capital culture and bringing visitors face to face with the early sources of Chinese civilization.

Visiting: Here visitors can both picture the flourishing of Shang-era Zhengzhou through excavated bronzes and pottery and, alongside the site, sense the grandeur of the rammed-earth walls — understanding how a capital was planned and lived in more than three thousand years ago, as if gazing across time at the childhood of Chinese civilization.
