Xiliu Beipo Village

Xiliubeipo Village, in Dongguan's Songshan Lake district, is best known today as the site of Huawei's corporate campus — often called the Huawei European Town. Built as a purpose-built headquarters for one of China's most globally significant technology companies, the campus reproduces European architectural styles across a series of themed zones connected by a small railway. Although technically a corporate site and only semi-open to the public, it has become one of Dongguan's most talked-about destinations and a frequent stop on Greater Bay Area itineraries.

The design is unabashedly theatrical. Each zone is built around a different European architectural reference — a grand European square, a Czech castle, a French chateau, a Tuscan hill town, and others — with landscaped lakes, bridges, and formal gardens linking them. A small tram, modeled on European narrow-gauge railways, carries employees and authorized visitors between zones. For foreign travelers used to the originals, the effect is uncanny; for domestic visitors, it is closer to a foreign-country theme park without leaving Guangdong. Either way, it reads as a singular artifact of twenty-first-century Chinese corporate ambition.

The site is important to Dongguan's contemporary identity. The presence of Huawei's headquarters here is a point of local pride, and the campus embodies the city's effort to rebrand from world's factory to technology and innovation hub. Around it, the wider Songshan Lake district has filled with research centers, supplier offices, and housing — a deliberate industrial cluster rather than an accidental one.

Access is the catch. Because this is a working corporate campus, not a public park, entry is restricted: visitors generally need to be hosted by an employee, attend an official event, or arrange access through approved channels. Independent drop-in visits are not reliably possible, and policies shift over time. For travelers who can arrange access, it is a genuinely unique site — part headquarters, part film set, part urban experiment. For those who cannot, the surrounding Songshan Lake scenic area is fully public and offers a strong alternative perspective on the same district.
