Zou's Chicken-Soup Tangyuan

Founded in the late Qing dynasty and carried through several generations for over a century, Zou's chicken tangyuan is one of Xingyi's most representative traditional snacks, known across the Qianxinan region for its savoury counterpoint to the usual sweet dumplings.

Chicken tangyuan is counted among Xingyi's four signature snacks alongside the bamboo-brush dumpling, lever-pressed noodles and mutton rice noodles; its savoury profile stands apart in a tradition of sweet dumplings, drawing visitors who come specifically to taste it.

Glutinous-rice dough is hand-rolled around a savoury chicken filling, boiled and served bathed in rich chicken broth with sesame paste and scallion; the skin is chewy, the filling succulent and the broth deep, always made to order.

Zou's chicken tangyuan is a locally recognised time-honoured food brand of Xingyi; it does not appear in the MOFCOM "China Time-Honoured Brand" register and should be regarded as a regional brand.
