Gold-lacquered wood carving, also called "zhujin wood carving," is a Ningbo decorative art combining wood carving, lacquering and gilding, historically used to adorn bridal sedans, Buddhist statues, architectural pieces and furniture.

Fine woods such as camphor and linden are worked in relief, in the round and in openwork, then lacquered, leaf-gilded and gold-traced so the pieces glow with gold over a red ground, intricate and sumptuous.

Ý nghĩa văn hóa

In 2008 Ningbo gold-lacquered wood carving entered the second batch of national ICH and ranks among the city's celebrated "three golds and an inlay" crafts.
