Zhuang Bronze Drum Custom

Di sản phi vật thể cấp quốc gia · Đợt 1
Nguồn gốc

The bronze drum is the most important ritual and musical instrument of the Zhuang people of Guangxi, originating before the Qin dynasty with a history exceeding two thousand years. Bronze drum customs pervade Zhuang ritual life—ancestral rites, weddings, funerals and festivals—and historically the number of drums owned measured a family's wealth and status.

Loại hình nghệ thuật

Drums are suspended on ropes or cradled, struck with wooden mallets on the face while a pottery jar at the back opening is manipulated to amplify the resonance, producing a deep, carrying tone that pierces the air. At festivals, many drums sounding simultaneously can be heard for kilometers.

Ý nghĩa văn hóa

Inscribed in 2006 on the first national ICH list, the bronze drum is the most abundantly excavated ancient bronze artifact in Guangxi and a precious material for studying Zhuang and Southeast Asian ancient civilization; the Guangxi Ethnic Museum holds the largest bronze drum collection in China.

Nơi trải nghiệm

The custom is widely maintained across Zhuang counties in Baise, Hechi and Nanning; the Guangxi Ethnic Museum has a dedicated bronze drum gallery and is the authoritative place to learn about drum culture.
