Quzi Cultural Park, located on the outskirts of Yueyang in the area historically associated with the poet and statesman Qu Yuan, is a 4A-rated scenic and cultural park dedicated to the memory of one of the most important figures in Chinese literary and political history. Set against the green slopes of Yusui Mountain and threaded by the gentle Miluo River, the park is one of the most atmospheric places in the Yueyang region to connect with the deep cultural legacy of the Dragon Boat Festival, which is celebrated here with particular intensity each summer.

Qu Yuan lived during the Warring States period and was a minister of the State of Chu. He is widely regarded as the founding figure of Chinese lyric poetry. Exiled by a corrupt court, he wandered the southern landscapes of the Chu realm — the very landscapes around modern Yueyang and the Miluo River — composing the anguished, visionary poems collected in the Songs of Chu. According to tradition, he drowned himself in the Miluo River in despair at the fall of his state, and the local people raced out in boats to rescue him, giving rise to the Dragon Boat races that are now held across the Chinese-speaking world every fifth lunar month.

The park is laid out as a sequence of landscape zones that guide visitors through this story. Ancient camphor trees tower above stone paths, clear streams wind between small islands, and wooden bridges cross pools where dragon-boat races are re-enacted during the festival season. The architecture is in the style of classical Chinese academies and temples — grey-tiled roofs, flying eaves, and quiet courtyards — and includes a Qu Yuan memorial hall and a traditional academy building where the poet's work is presented alongside exhibits on Chu culture, early Chinese poetry, and the history of the Dragon Boat tradition.

For international visitors, Quzi Cultural Park is best visited as part of a broader cultural itinerary that includes Yueyang Tower and Junshan Island, all of which together form the core of the Yueyang region's identity as a landscape of Chinese literary memory. The park is at its most atmospheric in late spring and early summer, when the surrounding hills are at their greenest, and during the Dragon Boat Festival itself, when races and ceremonies bring the story of Qu Yuan vividly to life.
