Vườn Ly

Li Garden is one of Wuxi's classic lakeside gardens, a 4A-rated park extending out into Li Lake, an inner lake connected to Tai Lake's northeastern corner. It is among the city's older public parks, developed around a Jiangnan-style landscape of narrow causeways, low bridges, and covered corridors that thread across the water, giving the whole garden the feel of a long, slow promenade built just above the surface of the lake.

Inside, the garden's signature elements are its long, thin water-bound walkways. Covered corridors zigzag across the shallows, low stone bridges connect small islets, and pavilions sit at the water's edge so that visitors are almost constantly in contact with the lake as they walk. The design takes advantage of the surrounding views, drawing the eye outward toward the open water and the tree-lined shore, rather than enclosing the garden tightly within walls the way a more conventional courtyard garden would. The result is a hybrid of classical garden design and lakeside park, scaled to Li Lake's gentler waters rather than the wide expanses of Tai Lake itself.

The garden is at its most colorful in two seasons: in March and April, when peach blossoms come into bloom along the causeways, and from June through September, when lotus flowers open across the ponds and inlets. Outside those peaks, the garden remains a quiet, slow-paced alternative to Wuxi's busier attractions, popular with older locals for morning walks and with visitors looking for a calmer counterpoint to the crowds at Turtle Head Isle nearby.

A relaxed visit typically takes one to two hours, and because the garden's layout is essentially linear along its water-bound paths, it is easy to walk at whatever pace the views inspire. Its location on the Tai Lake shoreline puts it within a short distance of Turtle Head Isle and the Lingshan area, making it a natural addition to a day built around Wuxi's lakefront gardens rather than a destination that needs to anchor an itinerary on its own.
