Mount Pan, or Panshan, is one of the most celebrated mountains in northern China and the most famous natural attraction in the wider Tianjin region, set among the forested hills of Jizhou District in the northern part of the municipality. A full day is the natural length for a visit, with a sustained climb from the base to the main summit and back. Two main routes lead up the mountain, and many visitors choose to climb one and descend the other to take in the full range of scenery. For those who prefer a less demanding day, cable cars link the lower slopes to the upper temple areas, allowing visitors to skip the steepest sections while still enjoying the principal views. Comfortable shoes, water, layers, and sun protection are all worth bringing.

Spring and autumn are the most rewarding seasons, when the foliage and light bring out the colors of the pines and rocks, the temperatures suit a long day of walking, and the upper views are clearest. Summer brings welcome shade and the streams at their most dramatic, while winter snow transforms the upper slopes for hardier visitors.
