Khu danh lam thắng cảnh Ngũ Tiết

Wuxie Scenic Area, located in Zhuji within the Shaoxing administrative region, is a 4A-rated natural area centered on a series of five cascading waterfalls on the western slopes of the Siming Mountains. The name "wuxie," meaning "five falls," refers to the five-tier sequence of the main cascade, which drops through a narrow forested valley and is the most distinctive single feature of the site.

The scenic area is organized as a sequence of four connected zones, beginning at the outer lake and progressing inward through the Peach Blossom Spring area, the Eastern Source valley, and the Western Source. Wuxie Lake, an artificial reservoir at the entrance, is crossed by boat to reach the trailhead, after which a stone path follows the stream up the valley through the sequence of five falls. Each of the falls has its own character, with the lower cascades spread across broad rock faces and the upper drops plunging into deeper pools, and bridges, pavilions, and viewing platforms are positioned along the path to give multiple perspectives on the water.

The site is one of the older recorded natural attractions in eastern Zhejiang, with literary references dating back well over a millennium, and the surrounding forest includes a mix of broadleaf evergreens, bamboo, and planted ornamental species that give the valley a distinct character in each season. Summer is the busiest period, when visitors come for the cool of the gorge and the chance to play in the shallower pools, while autumn brings red maple foliage across the slopes and early winter turns the ginkgo trees along the entrance road brilliant yellow.

For international visitors, Wuxie is typically visited as a full-day trip from either Zhuji or central Shaoxing, and the physical layout of the site makes a serious walk of most visits. Travelers should budget a full day to explore at a relaxed pace, including the lake crossing and the upper valleys, and should be prepared for uneven stone steps on the upper sections of the trail. The scenic area is most rewarding in the cooler months and after sustained rainfall, when the falls run at their fullest.
