Giới thiệu về Công viên Địa chất Thế giới Nhóm Núi lửa Lôi Khung Hải Khẩu
The Leiqiong Haikou Volcanic Cluster Global Geopark, in Shishan town on the outskirts of Haikou, is a UNESCO-recognized global geopark preserving one of the most accessible volcanic landscapes in southern China. Across the park sit dozens of volcanoes of varied types, together with lava tunnels, crater lakes, and formations of basalt that together amount to a natural geological museum. For travelers with any interest in the natural world, it is one of the most rewarding sights on Hainan Island.
The park's outstanding feature is the diversity of its volcanic forms, ranging from cinder cones and maar craters to flows of solidified lava and deep underground tubes, all set among tropical vegetation. Walking the trails you can look down into silent volcanic craters now softened by greenery, follow paths of rough basalt, and explore lava caves where the molten rock once flowed beneath the surface. The highest viewpoint opens a sweeping panorama over Haikou to the north and the Qiongzhou Strait beyond, a reminder that this whole landscape was built by the same deep forces that shaped the island.
A visit takes about three hours to do properly, combining the crater walks, the lava-tube caves, and the panoramic viewpoints along a well-built network of trails and steps. The going involves some climbing and uneven footing inside the caves, so sturdy shoes are worth wearing, and the tropical sun means sun protection and water are essential. Mornings are cooler and quieter, while weekends and holidays draw larger domestic crowds, so an early start pays off. The tropical greenery makes any season pleasant, though the heat of midday is best avoided.
The geopark sits on Haikou's southwestern fringe and works well as a dedicated half-day trip, pairing naturally with the surrounding volcanic-village area of Shishan, where people live in houses built from black basalt and cultivate tropical fruit. For anyone who wants to understand the island of Hainan from the ground up, this park is the essential starting point and one of the most memorable natural stops on any Haikou itinerary.
