Bản Thông Thiên Thạch Thành

Tongtian Village in Shicheng county, northeast of Ganzhou, is a 4A-level scenic area and national geopark celebrated for its strange rocks, hidden caves, lovely springs, and Buddhist heritage. The site takes its name from the main Tongtian Rock, whose twin prongs of stone seem to reach toward the sky, and it is praised for the five qualities captured in a local saying, "strange rocks, deep caves, beautiful springs, fragrant tea, and flourishing Buddhism." For travelers exploring the Ganzhou region, it is a rewarding blend of nature and culture.

The scenic area spreads across a Danxia sandstone upland where the rock has been carved into extraordinary shapes, narrow clefts, natural arches, towering pillars, and smooth, rounded formations that have inspired names and legends. Paths lead between the most striking formations, through caves and up to panoramic terraces, with old Buddhist sites tucked among the rocks and springs welling up at the base of the cliffs. The surrounding area is also a center of Hakka rural life, with terraced fields and villages visible from the higher viewpoints, which adds a layer of human geography to the geological spectacle.

Most visitors spend three to four hours exploring the main formations and trails, and the walking involves steps and some elevation, so sturdy shoes and a half-day are the right investment. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons, when the mild weather suits hiking and the vegetation softens the red rock with green. Mornings are quieter and better for photography, while weekends bring more domestic visitors, so a weekday or early start offers a calmer experience.

Tongtian Village sits well northeast of downtown Ganzhou and works best as a dedicated nature and culture outing, combining well with other sights in Shicheng county for a full day in the countryside.
