Giới thiệu về Thung lũng Gấu trúc
Panda Valley is a giant panda base on the forested slopes outside Dujiangyan, set up to prepare captive-bred pandas for life in the wild. Unlike the larger and more crowded panda bases near Chengdu, it houses a smaller number of animals in roomy, semi-natural forested enclosures that mimic the bamboo-rich habitat of their native mountains. For travelers who want to see giant pandas in a quieter, more thoughtful setting, and to learn about the long and difficult work of panda reintroduction, it is one of the most rewarding stops in the Dujiangyan area.
The base is best known for its wild-training program. Some of the pandas living here are being evaluated for eventual release back into the wild, going through carefully staged steps that test their ability to forage, climb, and avoid predators without human help. Visitors can observe pandas in enclosures designed to be as close to a natural mountain environment as possible, often seen climbing trees, rolling through the bamboo, or simply sleeping in the way pandas famously do. Information panels around the site explain the training stages, the criteria used to judge readiness for release, and the many challenges that the program has worked to overcome.
The site is also home to red pandas in some areas, and the broader forest setting, with its cool air and dense canopy, makes it pleasant to walk even beyond the animal enclosures. The walking route is gentle and well-marked, suitable for families with children and for visitors who prefer an easy pace. Mornings are the best time to see the pandas active, especially in the warmer months when they tend to retreat into shade by midday.
Panda Valley sits in the mountainous corridor north of Dujiangyan city, close to Mount Qingcheng and the larger Dujiangyan Giant Panda Park. It can be combined with either of these in a single day, though many visitors prefer to take it slowly. The Dujiangyan region as a whole is part of the broader Sichuan giant panda habitat, itself a UNESCO World Heritage listing, and Panda Valley is one of several places where that natural heritage is being actively protected.
