Daheishan (Dahei Mountain) is a 4A-rated scenic area on the eastern edge of Dalian's Jinpu New District, and one of the most important religious and hiking sites in the Dalian region. Its name, "Great Black Mountain," comes from the dark forest cover that cloaks its slopes. Long revered as a sacred mountain, it is unusual in China for combining Buddhist, Daoist, and Confucian religious heritage within a single site, and it has become one of the most popular hiking destinations in the Dalian area.

The mountain's religious significance is reflected in its temples and shrines. Buddhist monasteries, Daoist temples, and Confucian pavilions are scattered across the slopes, some dating back many centuries. The most important of these — including the Chaoyang Temple, the Guanyin Pavilion, and the Daoist Bixia Yuanjun Temple — are active religious sites, drawing both worshippers and hikers. The juxtaposition of the three traditions on a single mountain is rare in northeast China and gives Daheishan a distinctive spiritual atmosphere.

The hiking is the other main draw. Several trails lead up the mountain, ranging from easy walking paths to steep staircases cut into the cliffs. The higher reaches of the mountain offer panoramic views across Dalian, the Jinpo New District, and the surrounding coast — on clear days, the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Gulf are both visible from the summit. The forest cover, the streams, and the variety of plant life make the mountain a rewarding "natural oxygen bar" in the language of Chinese tourism, with noticeably cleaner and cooler air than the city below.

For travelers, Daheishan is a good half- or full-day escape from Dalian's urban core. Comfortable hiking shoes, water, and layered clothing are essential, since the trails are steep in places and the weather on the summit can be dramatically cooler than at the base. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons, with wildflowers in bloom and colorful foliage, respectively. The mountain is also a popular sunrise hiking destination, with early-morning starts rewarded by cloud seas over the coast.
