Giới thiệu về Cổ thành Đại Lý

Dali Ancient Town (Dali Gucheng) is the cultural and emotional heart of the Dali region, a laid-back old quarter of low-rise stone-and-wood buildings, flagstone lanes, and courtyard gardens cradled between the Cangshan range and Erhai Lake. Once the capital of the Nanzhao and Dali kingdoms — powerful states that rivaled the Tang and Song courts — the town has retained its historical character through successive cycles of decline and revival, and today is one of the most beloved destinations in southwest China for both domestic and foreign travelers.

The layout of the old town is straightforward and compact, with a grid of stone-paved streets enclosed by remnants of the old city wall. The three most important streets — Fuxing Road, Renmin Road, and Huguo Road — are lined with Bai-style courtyard houses converted into guesthouses, cafés, bars, craft shops, and indigo-dye workshops. The South Gate and the restored city walls offer the classic view of Cangshan rising in the background, while the Catholic church, several old temples, and the Wuwei and Gantong temples on the edge of town reveal the layered religious history of the area.

What sets Dali apart from many other ancient towns in China is its genuinely relaxed rhythm of life. Local Bai residents still tend gardens, dry rice noodles in the sun, and gather for temple festivals, while travelers from around the world linger for days or weeks in guesthouses, drawn by the mild climate, the surrounding scenery, and an atmosphere that has long been a magnet for artists, musicians, and independent travelers. The town's compact size and walkable scale make it ideal for slow exploration.

Evenings are when the old town is at its most memorable, with lantern-lit lanes, live music spilling from small bars, and a thriving market culture. The morning market and the "foreigner street" area along Renmin Road are great for people-watching, and the nearby Cangshan cable car, Three Pagodas, and Erhai lakefront are all easy half-day trips from a central guesthouse. For travelers looking to balance sightseeing with genuine downtime, Dali Ancient Town is one of the most rewarding bases in all of Yunnan.
