Tsingtao Beer

Tsingtao Beer was founded in 1903 by German and British merchants during the era when Qingdao was a German-leased territory, making it one of China's earliest breweries to use German brewing methods. Its origins are tied to Qingdao's history as a treaty port shaped by German urban and industrial influence.

Known for its crisp, clean taste and consistent quality, Tsingtao became China's most iconic beer brand, exported worldwide and almost synonymous with Chinese beer. The annual Qingdao International Beer Festival further binds the city's identity to brewing.

Brewing follows the German lager tradition, using quality malted barley, hops and spring water from nearby Mount Lao, with mashing, fermentation and maturation producing a clean malt aroma and gentle hop bitterness. The local mountain water is considered key to the flavour.

Tsingtao is a celebrated China Time-honoured Brand and a century-old national name, still produced near its original site, with its early brewery buildings turned into a museum that tells the story of China's modern industry and beer culture.
