О Музей Нинся
The Ningxia Museum, located in the Jinfeng District of Yinchuan, is the flagship provincial museum of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and an essential first stop for international visitors who want to understand the layers of history they will encounter across the area. The museum is housed in a purpose-built building whose floor plan is deliberately laid out in the shape of the Chinese character "Hui," a direct reference to the Hui community that gives the region its name.
The exterior decoration reinforces the same cultural message. Architectural elements reproduced on the facade — including kalavinka celestial-bird ornaments and vajra guardian figures — are drawn from Western Xia relics excavated across Ningxia, and the four main gateways carry patterns inspired by regional artifacts. The museum is spread across four floors, with the three public levels organized thematically, and the curatorial narrative moves from deep prehistory through the Tangut Western Xia empire and on to the ethnography of the Hui people.
The most important exhibits are the Western Xia galleries. These include Tangut-script manuscripts, Buddhist bronzes, ceramics, and architectural components recovered from the Western Xia Mausoleums — the most comprehensive introduction anywhere to the Tangut empire that ruled this region from 1038 to 1227. Other galleries cover the Helan Mountain rock art tradition, Silk Road artifacts that document Ningxia's role as a frontier corridor between China proper and the western regions, and the cultural practices of the Hui community whose history is woven into the region.
For international visitors, the Ningxia Museum is best visited at the start of a Yinchuan itinerary rather than at the end, because it explains the context for nearly every other site in the city — from the Western Xia Mausoleums to the rock art panels, the Great Wall sections, and the regional cuisine. Exhibit labels are primarily in Chinese, but the visual displays, maps, and artifact arrangements communicate effectively to non-Chinese readers, and the museum's central location makes it easy to combine with a walk through the nearby city squares. Plan to spend a relaxed morning here before heading out to the surrounding heritage sites.
Культурное наследие
The Ningxia Museum stands on East Renmin Square Road in Jinfeng District of Yinchuan, the largest comprehensive museum in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Its floor plan takes the shape of the character "Hui," echoing Ningxia's name, while the façade uses Western Xia architectural elements such as kalavinka and warrior figures for an unmistakably regional look. The collection is led by Western Xia artefacts—the gilded bronze ox, stone horse, fragmentary Tangut steles and rubbings of Helan Mountain rock art among its treasures—alongside Hui folk material and Ningxia's intangible heritage of Helan inkstones and folk instruments.
Посещение: Entering the hall, the superb casting of the gilded bronze ox, the enigmatic Tangut script on fragmentary steles and the archaic lines of rock-art rubbings unfold in turn, letting visitors touch the pulse of the Western Xia dynasty and the ancient peoples at close range; in the folk gallery, Hui costume, Helan inkstones and the kouxian and niwawu tell the living side of Ningxia's many cultures.
