Международный пляж Вэйхая

The Weihai International Bathing Beach is the principal public bathing beach of Weihai, stretching along the Yellow Sea coastline of the city's high-tech district. Long established as the city's signature summer destination, it remains the most accessible and most visited beach in the Weihai urban area, particularly popular with domestic travelers during the summer holidays.

The beach is a long, gently sloping stretch of pale sand, with shallow water that warms quickly in summer and a generally calm shore break protected by the geography of the bay. A wide paved promenade runs behind the sand, lined with hotels, restaurants, and the small creative cafes and guesthouses of the adjacent Torch 8th Street district. The layout makes it easy to move between swimming, dining, and accommodation without needing transport.

The atmosphere is the principal draw. The beach is rarely empty in summer: families set up under umbrellas, swimmers fill the shallows, and food vendors move along the sand. Evenings bring a steady flow of walkers, cyclists, and photographers out for sunset. The water is generally clean by the standards of densely populated Chinese beaches, and the long westward orientation makes for striking evening light on the water and the silhouettes of distant headlands.

For a foreign visitor, the International Bathing Beach is a useful base for a relaxed Weihai stay. Hotels and guesthouses within a few blocks of the promenade make it possible to experience the beach on foot at all hours. Bring sunscreen, swimwear, and a hat; sun umbrellas and loungers can typically be rented on site. Pair the beach with Torch 8th Street, the coastal ring-road sightseeing bus, and Cat Head Mountain for a half-urban, half-natural introduction to the Weihai waterfront.
