Озеро Шуду

Shudu Lake lies roughly thirty-five kilometers northeast of Shangri-La, nestled in a basin of pine and birch forest inside Potatso National Park. At about 3,700 meters above sea level, it is the lower of the park's two main lakes and the most accessible from the entrance, making it the gateway stop on most visits to the park.

The lake itself is small and quiet, its surface broken only by the rings of rising fish and the reflections of the surrounding peaks. A wooden boardwalk traces the shoreline for about three kilometers, crossing wet meadow and patches of old-growth spruce where moss drapes from the branches. The forest here is one of the best places in the Shangri-La region to encounter wildlife at close range; musk deer and the occasional red panda are reported, and the lake itself is known for an endemic small carp referred to locally as the "Shudu split-belly fish."

The strongest seasonal draw is autumn. By late October the birches around the lake turn a clear gold, contrasting with the dark spruce and the deep blue of the water, and the surrounding meadows shift to amber. Rhododendrons provide the spring counterpoint: in May and June the lake is ringed with pink and crimson bloom, and the boardwalk can feel almost tunnel-like where the canopy closes overhead.

For travelers, Shudu Lake works as either a focused half-day walk or the opening segment of a longer Potatso circuit that continues on to Bitahai and the Militang meadows. Shuttle buses from the park entrance stop at the head of the boardwalk, and a small tea-house at the trailhead sells butter tea and instant noodles. Weather changes quickly at this altitude, so warm layers and rain gear are essential.
