The Sui-Tang Luoyang Heritage Park preserves the core area of what was once the imperial palace city spanning the Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, and Song periods, with its most notable structures being reconstructions of the Mingtang, or Hall of Light, and the Tiantang, or Heavenly Hall, both closely associated with Empress Wu Zetian's rule. The Mingtang stood on the central axis of the Sui-Tang palace city and served as the main throne hall, functioning as the setting where Tang Emperor Gaozong and later Wu Zetian oversaw the affairs of the empire.

The complex today combines excavated foundations with large-scale reconstructed structures that give visitors a tangible sense of the scale and ambition of the original Tang-era buildings, which were significant landmarks of their time. Exhibits within the halls typically cover the history of Sui-Tang Luoyang and the political significance of the site during Wu Zetian's reign, one of the more distinctive periods in Chinese imperial history given her position as China's only reigning female emperor. The soaring, multi-tiered design of the reconstructed halls makes for an impressive visual centerpiece within the wider heritage park.

A visit typically takes two to three hours to see both the Mingtang and Tiantang halls along with the surrounding grounds. Because the site combines indoor exhibition space with outdoor plazas, comfortable footwear is advisable, and the halls are often especially striking when lit up in the evening.

As a key component of the broader Sui-Tang Luoyang City heritage zone, this park is commonly combined with a visit to the nearby Yingtian Gate Site and other ruins parks in the same area, forming the backbone of a day dedicated to Luoyang's imperial past.
