Lanzhou Ocean Park is a large modern aquarium in Lanzhou's high-tech zone, designed as a comprehensive marine-life attraction for the city and the broader Gansu region. With a total building area of more than twenty thousand square metres and a total water volume in the order of several thousand cubic metres, it ranks among the larger aquariums in northwestern China and offers the most extensive indoor marine experience available in Lanzhou. For international visitors travelling with families, it is one of the most substantial leisure attractions in the city.

The aquarium is organised over four levels, three above ground and one below, with the layout structured as a sequence of themed zones. Visitors move from a central entrance hall through dedicated display areas that include the Amazon tunnel, a mangrove exhibit, a biological specimen area, an Arctic wolf cave, a penguin harbour, a mermaid theatre, the main underwater tunnel, a jellyfish palace, a sea lion and otter interaction zone, a dolphin performance hall, a marine education hall, a deep-sea pavilion, a science corridor, a family interaction area, and a petting zoo. A submerged restaurant gives visitors the experience of eating within a display tank.

The scale of the aquarium allows it to combine several different types of visitor experience within a single site. The principal display tanks, including the underwater tunnel, offer the immersive, walk-through marine experience that has become the standard of major aquariums internationally. The performance halls, particularly the dolphin and mermaid shows, provide the theatrical entertainment that has proved most popular with families and children. The educational areas, including the science corridor and the marine education hall, complement the entertainment with displays on marine biology, conservation, and the science of aquarium management.

For international visitors, Lanzhou Ocean Park is best treated as a focused family activity rather than a primary cultural stop. Allow roughly half a day for a full visit, including the principal tanks and at least one scheduled performance. The aquarium is accessible by public transport and is particularly useful as a climate-controlled option during the hot summers and cold winters of the Gansu region.
