О Линия раздела Желтого и Бохайского морей на горе Лаотешань
The Laotieshan Boundary Line marks the meeting point of the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea at the southern tip of the Lüshun peninsula, just outside the city of Dalian. It is one of the most distinctive coastal viewpoints in China: a natural line in the water where the two seas — with their different temperatures, salinities, and sediment loads — meet but do not immediately mix, often visible as a subtle but unmistakable color change on the sea surface. For travelers visiting the Lüshun area, it is one of the most memorable stops.
The geography of the site is what makes the phenomenon possible. The Lüshun peninsula juts out into the sea at the boundary between the Bohai Gulf — the semi-enclosed body of water between Dalian, Tianjin, and the Shandong peninsula — and the open Yellow Sea to the east. As the tidal currents from the two seas flow past the tip of the peninsula, their differing physical properties create a visible seam in the water that has been observed and remarked upon for centuries.
The viewing area sits on a high cliff at the southern tip of the peninsula, reached by road from the Lüshun town center. From the railing, visitors look out over the converging currents, the Lüshun lighthouse, and the open sea beyond. The boundary is most clearly visible on calm, sunny days when the angle of the light emphasizes the contrast between the two water masses. Interpretive panels explain the oceanography, the marine ecology, and the historical significance of the cape.
For travelers, the Laotieshan boundary is a worthwhile stop on a wider Lüshun itinerary, usually paired with Baiyu Mountain, the Military Port Park, and the region's other historical sites. It is quieter than the more developed attractions in Lüshun, with a windswept, end-of-the-world atmosphere that is a striking contrast to downtown Dalian. Bring a wind layer — the cape is fully exposed to the sea breeze — and try to time the visit for a clear day, when the boundary line is most visible.
