Chengde hawthorn products include hawthorn jelly, fruit roll-ups, hawthorn balls and juice in various forms, made from local quality wild hawthorn — sweet-tart, refreshing and digestive.

Chengde lies in the Yanshan mountain range with abundant wild hawthorn; the tradition of processing hawthorn into various foods has long local roots, and Qing emperors at the Mountain Resort are said to have regularly consumed hawthorn products.

Fruit roll-ups and hawthorn jelly are the most popular souvenir forms, eaten directly or steeped in water; they make an ideal post-meal digestive.

Chengde hawthorn is noted for large size, thick flesh and bright red colour with balanced sweet-sour taste; the various products made from it are among the most representative of Chengde's agricultural specialties.
