Duijia (Chengde Grilled Sandwich)

Duijia is a hot snack of oven-fired crispy sesame flatbread filled with braised pork belly or head meat, with a flaky crust, fragrant filling and distinct layering.

Duijia is said to have originated in the Qing dynasty, influenced by the refined ingredients of imperial chefs and combining local Chengde grilled flatbread and smoked meat techniques to become a unique folk snack of the city.

Best eaten hot, with a choice of fillings such as pig's head meat or pork belly, garnished with chilli and coriander; it is the top choice for Chengde residents as a breakfast or street snack.
