Kiessling

Kiessling was opened in 1901 by the German Albert Kiessling in Tianjin's foreign concessions, one of China's earliest Western restaurants and listed in the first batch of the Ministry of Commerce's "China Time-Honored Brands."

Kiessling embodies modern Tianjin's mingling of East and West, famed for German, Russian, British, French and Italian dishes, pastries and confections — a culinary symbol of the city's foreign-villa era.

Its pastries and breads follow European recipes and hand techniques, with creations such as the chestnut-cream dessert and Kiessling bread living on in the memory of generations of Tianjiners.

Still operating after more than a century, Kiessling remains Tianjin's most emblematic surviving Western-cuisine brand.
