Jian Kiln Jian Ware Firing Technique

국가급 무형문화유산 · 제第三批国家级非遗차 선정
기원

The Jian kiln sits in present-day Jianyang District of Nanping, Fujian, one of the eight great kilns of the Song; its black-glazed tea bowls, prized in Song tea contests for showing the colour of the froth, display endlessly varied hare's-fur, oil-spot and yohen glazes. The firing technique entered the third national ICH list in 2011. Wuyishan, the heart of northern-Fujian tea culture, is a key place where jian ware and rock tea meet as one.

예술 형식

Jian ware is thrown from iron-rich red clay, coated with a high-iron glaze and fired to about 1300°C in heavy reduction; the glaze crystallises within the kiln into hare's-fur, oil-spot or partridge-feather patterns—"one colour in, ten thousand out"—each result a chance of fire and material beyond full control.

문화적 의의

Jian ware is a landmark of Chinese ceramics and Song tea culture; it travelled east with the tea ceremony to Japan, where yohen tenmoku bowls are revered as national treasures. Its revival in northern Fujian has enriched Wuyishan's tea travel, letting visitors carry the tea in the vessel that once defined it.
