Haiyun'an Temple Sugar-ball Fair

The Haiyun'an Sugar-ball Fair is a traditional temple fair in Qingdao held around the local Haiyun'an temple; long-established, it takes its name from the many candied-haw skewers sold there and is an important seasonal folk event of old Qingdao.

During the fair, stalls of sugar-ball skewers gather alongside folk crafts, local snacks and assorted folk performances in a bustling, festive crowd, with the candied-haw skewers as its emblematic treat.

The Haiyun'an Sugar-ball Fair is a provincial-level item of intangible cultural heritage, carrying the street-life memory and seasonal customs of old Qingdao and vividly embodying the blend of folk culture and trade.
