The Huangsha Ancient Ferry Ecological Tourism Area is a national wetland park on the eastern bank of the Yellow River in Yinchuan's Xingqing District, and one of the recognized scenic spots of Ningxia. Located about 28 kilometers from central Yinchuan, it preserves the riverside landscape where, for centuries, merchants, soldiers, and pilgrims crossed the Yellow River on the northern frontier of historical China. For international visitors, the site offers a quieter, more ecologically focused alternative to the region's headline heritage sites.

The park is divided into several themed zones, including a wetland reserve, a desert recreation area, a Yellow River Ancient Ferry cultural zone, a folk culture garden, and an ecological exhibition area. The landscapes here shift dramatically within short distances — reed marshes and shallow lakes give way to dunes, riverside meadows, and patches of restored forest — reflecting the unusual geography of the Yinchuan plain, where the Yellow River meets the edge of the Mu Us Desert. Birdlife is abundant, particularly during migration seasons.

The "ancient ferry" in the name refers to the historical river crossing that was once one of the most important fords on the middle Yellow River, used by travelers moving between the Ningxia plain and the Ordos region. Small exhibits and reconstructed buildings evoke the atmosphere of a frontier-era crossing, and traditional rivercraft such as sheepskin rafts can be taken out onto the water. These buoyant rafts, made from inflated animal skins lashed to a wooden frame, have been used on the upper Yellow River for centuries and are one of the iconic experiences of a Ningxia trip.

For visitors based in Yinchuan, Huangsha Ancient Ferry makes a good half-day trip, particularly for families or travelers who want a slower-paced experience away from the main cultural sites. The combination of wetlands, desert margin, and river scenery makes it one of the few places in northern China where all three landscapes can be experienced in a single morning. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons; summers can be hot, and winter winds off the river can be sharp.
