옌타이산 풍경구 소개
Yantai Mountain Scenic Area is a historic hill and park at the northern tip of downtown Yantai, the original site from which the city itself grew and the source of its name, which refers to the smoke signals once lit from here to warn of raiders along the coast. Today it is one of the most central and easily visited attractions in the city, combining historic Western architecture, viewpoints over the sea, and shady walking paths. For travelers who want a single stop that captures the layered history of Yantai, it is the natural starting point.
The hill is dotted with the surviving buildings of the former foreign concession era, when Yantai was one of the treaty ports opened to overseas trade in the late nineteenth century. Yantai Hill stands at the northern tip of downtown Yantai, surrounded by the sea on three sides, and is the birthplace of the city and the source of its name — in the early Ming dynasty, "smoke-beacon mounds" were set up here against wokou raiders, from which "Yantai" (smoke terrace) takes its name. After Yantai was opened as a treaty port in 1861, more than ten countries including Britain, the United States and France established consulates, churches and trading houses on the hill, leaving behind a whole quarter of modern-era buildings that make Yantai Hill a living witness to the history of China's treaty ports.
