무당 대명봉

Wudang Daming Peak is one of the celebrated peaks of Wudang Mountain in Hubei province, standing in the Guanshan area to the south of the main scenic area. Also known by older names such as Zhutou Rock or the Pillar Peak, and revered locally as a seated image of Zhenwu, the Taoist deity who is the patron of Wudangshan, it rises to over thirteen hundred meters and is counted among the seventy-two traditional peaks of the range. As a 4A-rated scenic spot, it offers a quieter, more nature-focused side of Wudang compared to the busy summit and main temples.

Historical records from the Yuan dynasty describe Daming Peak as a place of steep, sunlit cliffs clothed in dense forest, with bamboo, springs, and rock formations shaded by tall trees, set deep in the mountains far from ordinary traffic. That description still fits the character of the peak today. The trail to the top climbs through cool woodland and bare rock, opening out onto sweeping views across the Wudang range, and the mountain is known for its agreeable climate and lush scenery, which make it especially pleasant during the hot summer months.

The hiking here is the main draw, with stone paths, pavilions, and outlooks positioned to take in the surrounding peaks and valleys. Because Daming Peak is less famous than the Golden Summit and the main temple axis, it sees fewer visitors, which is part of its appeal for travelers who enjoy longer walks and a more solitary mountain experience. The terrain is genuine mountain country, so sturdy shoes, water, and a reasonable level of fitness are worth bringing along.

Daming Peak sits somewhat apart from the core Wudang Mountain scenic area, so it works best as a dedicated outing for visitors with an extra day, or for those who have already seen the main UNESCO-listed temples and want to round out their understanding of the Wudang range. As a complement to the imperial grandeur of the Golden Summit, it offers a quieter, greener, more contemplative face of Wudangshan, ideal for hikers and travelers who like to escape the crowds.
