맹갑 용산사 소개
Lungshan Temple, also known as the Mengjia Longshan Temple, is one of Taipei's oldest and most revered temples, standing at the heart of the historic Wanhua district, the city's oldest settled neighborhood. Founded in the eighteenth century, it has survived earthquakes, fires, and wartime damage to remain one of the most active centers of religious and community life in Taipei. For travelers interested in architecture, folk religion, or the texture of everyday urban life, it is one of the most rewarding stops in the city.
The temple faces south and follows a classical three-courtyard layout, with a front hall, a main hall, and a rear hall connected by covered corridors to form a Chinese character reading as the word for return. Each of the halls is a masterwork of traditional craftsmanship, with intricately carved wooden brackets, painted ceiling beams, and ornate stone columns featuring coiling dragons and scenes from legend. The bronze dragon columns at the front entrance are particularly celebrated, and the spiral caisson ceiling above the main hall is considered one of the finest examples of its kind in Taiwan.
The temple is dedicated primarily to Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion, but over the centuries it has also become a place of worship for an eclectic pantheon that includes Mazu, the goddess of the sea, alongside deities of literature, medicine, commerce, and family. The result is a layered religious space where worshipers come for an extraordinary range of needs, from health and examinations to business success and marriage. Stacks of incense, flickering oil lamps, and the soft chanting of prayers create an atmosphere that feels genuinely alive rather than purely historical, especially during major festivals such as the lunar new year period and the birthday celebrations of Guanyin.
A visit usually takes about an hour and is best paired with a slow walk through the surrounding Wanhua district, where heritage streets, traditional medicine shops, and old markets give a strong sense of Taipei's layered past. The temple is busiest on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month and during major religious festivals, when crowds of worshippers fill the courtyards. Visitors are welcome, and a respectful, quiet demeanor is appreciated. For anyone wanting to experience the living spiritual traditions of Taipei, Lungshan Temple is one of the most powerful and beautiful places to begin.

Mengjia Longshan Temple stands in Taipei's Wanhua (the old Mengjia), founded in 1738 when settlers from the three Quanzhou counties of Jinjiang, Nan'an and Hui'an brought a divided incense of the bodhisattva Guanyin from Anhai Longshan Temple in Fujian across to Taiwan; it became the religious centre of the Quanzhou Sanyi community in the Taipei area and bore witness to the rise of Mengjia's merchant guilds. Facing south in the traditional Minnan plan, it has been rebuilt many times through the Jiaqing, Tongzhi and Guangxu reigns and the post-war era, gathering wood and stone carving, painting, jian-nian cut-plaster and bronze casting, its bronze dragon columns and the spiral caisson ceiling of the main hall counted as masterworks. It was gazetted a second-grade historic site in 1985 and elevated to a national monument in December 2018.
관람 안내: Entering the temple forecourt, the bell and drum towers meet the cleansing-waterfall pool, the four bronze dragon columns of the front hall alive with carving, and the spiral caisson on the golden columns of the main hall rises tier upon tier; wreathed in incense, devotees pray devoutly as Guanyin, Mazu and Guan Yu share a single hall. During the deity's birthday from the first full moon to the nineteenth of the second lunar month, the lanterns and rites are at their grandest, the best moment to feel the living temple faith of old Taipei.
