Unlike the more famous Mount Tai, the Culai range sees relatively few international visitors, so the atmosphere is correspondingly quieter and more local. The thermal water itself is drawn from a local geothermal well near the village of Qiaogou on the western edge of the range. The water emerges at roughly fifty degrees Celsius and is then cooled to comfortable bathing temperatures in a series of outdoor pools of varying heat. The resort complex includes family-friendly indoor pools, a children's water play area, a spa treatment wing, and a small swimming pool, along with outdoor hot spring pools arranged along the hillside. Most visitors move between pools at their own pace over the course of a half-day or full-day visit.

For foreign travelers, the Mount Culai hot spring resort is best treated as a rest-day activity — somewhere to soak tired legs after a Mount Tai sunrise climb, or to decompress after several intensive days of cultural sightseeing. Plan to bring swimwear, though rental options are usually available on site. Combine the visit with a half-day walk in the surrounding forest if time allows; the trails on this side of the Culai range are lightly used and the forest is genuinely pleasant. As with most Chinese hot spring resorts, expect family-oriented crowds on weekends and public holidays.
